Overheard Westridge is More Than a Form of Entertainment 

November 18, 2019

@overheard.westridge, which was first started in January of 2018 and is a spoof off of the popular Instagram accounts @overheardla and @overheardnewyork, is anonymously run. With posts ranging from “college is a religion and I’m atheist” to “how do you discreetly throw a mango onto the roof,” the account is dedicated to posting funny, unusual things students and staff have overheard or said on campus.

Students Rethink Testing after ACT Announces Changes

November 18, 2019

On Tuesday, October 8, ACT officials announced two new changes to the ACT. Beginning in September 2020, students will have the ability to retake certain sections of the college admissions exam. Students will also be able to take the exam online. The ACT’s partial retake option will provide a new and exciting option for students; the SAT, the only alternative standardized test, does not offer partial retakes. The new policy has raised questions amongst students across the nation and at Westridge.

Alumni Spotlight: Elizabeth Huttinger ’68

November 18, 2019

After graduating from Westridge, Elizabeth Huttinger ’68 spent most of her career as a two-time grant recipient of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Grand Challenges in Global Health Program for the study of water parasite diseases. Spyglass talked with her to learn about what she is up to now, her favorite part of her job, and the advice she would give to current students who want to pursue a career in research.

Education To Vacation: Summer Break for Teachers

Summer is the season of relaxation, filled with fun activities and a break from school. Students could be found attending classes at colleges, going to summer camps, or on vacation with families and friends. However, students aren’t the only ones taking advantage of a little rest and relaxation. Spyglass asked four teachers how they spent their summers.
