Isabel is a copy editor and this year’s Media Editor for Spyglass. Over the summer, she attended a two-week residential program with The School of the New York Times titled “Immigration in New York: Law, Journalism, Culture.” Outside of Spyglass she enjoys reading/writing poetry and loves to travel.

A Local Look at the Global Climate Strike

There was a buzz around campus on the morning of September 20th. As students across the world walked out of class to participate in the Global Climate Strike, Westridge High Schoolers were mobilizing to do the same. Armed with signs that read “the teens are angry” and “there is no planet B,” Westridge students caught the Gold Line to Downtown Los Angeles to take part in the historic day.

Last spring, Dr. Lisa Carruthers, Director of Counseling and Student Support, and Dr. Jim Holland, Westridge’s Research Initiative Coordinator, began thinking ahead to this December, when author and psychologist Lisa Damour is scheduled to speak about her 2019 book, Under Pressure: Confronting the Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls, which was also the assigned summer reading for faculty and staff. Their meeting ended with a proposal to create a platform for parents to engage and discuss the book.
