Borneo

Ten days. Sixteen girls. One wild adventure.

 

For this year’s interim experience, Westridge sent a delegation of sixteen students and two chaperones on the adventure of a lifetime on the Malaysian island, Borneo. Led by Erica St. John and Lorri Deyer, this trip included a visit to an orangutan sanctuary, a village home stay, participation in a service project, exploration of Bako National Park, and touring of Borneo’s capital, Kuching.

 

The Borneo interim was an incredible experience. Not only did it introduce students to a new nation, but allowed them to gain perspective regarding the power of communication and the joy that can be gained through simple action and experience. Elise N., ’19, shared, “I was not expecting to get as much as I did out of the experience. We had a well-rounded trip with sightseeing, cultural immersion and service learning. I’m so happy I had the opportunity to go to Malaysia with my friends. I can safely say this trip was the highlight of my high school career and will always be filled with fond memories whenever I recall my experience.” Mia B., ’19, added, “I think by the end, we all took away the value in being able to find the things that connect us all as people, despite differences in our upbringings and our way of living.”
